Race Recap: 06/03 - Hickory Motor Speedway

It was a frustrating night at Hickory last Saturday, but even after taking this one on the chin we’ll be back this weekend with more fight than ever!

The day started really strong in morning practice. We had made a few adjustments to the car during the week to try and get better mid-corner rotation. Out of the gate we were running some of the best laps we have had all season! All signs were pointing in the right direction until about 20 laps into morning practice when we picked up a misfire under deceleration and a hesitation at the acceleration point. Throughout the day we made several adjustments to our carburetor setup which helped the problem but never completely solved it.

Since we are running in the Limited Late Model class we had to draw tires from the previous Late Model Stock race (normal routine at Hickory Motor Speedway). Sometimes you can get lucky with the tire draw and other times things go the other direction. Saturday was one of those other times, unfortunately, and we lost 0.5 a second in lap times after changing to our race tires.

We started our race in P.6 and were able to battle our way up to P.4. Fighting to hold position and fighting forward bite and all the other issues with car made our job really difficult though, and in the last five laps were overtaken by a couple of cars and had to settle for a P.6 finish.

It was absolutely not the weekend we were hoping for, but either way we have to learn from it and keep going!

Thank you for supporting grassroots racing and we will see you at the track!
