Race Recap: 05/20 - Hickory Motor Speedway

Another weekend at Hickory down and another huge step closer to victory. At the end of the day we brought home a P2 finish, but I can honestly say that this is the most progress we’ve made all year in terms of speed.

The car felt really good all day long leading up to the race and I knew had a competitive machine for the race. In both practices we finished in P1. In qaulifying we got just a little too tight and ended up missing the pole by 0.012 seconds putting us on the outside front row for the feature. In preparation for the ASA Limited race coming up on the 25th there were a few late model stock drivers who were racing with us, so the competition was arguably the fiercest it has been all year.

Coming to the green flag I got a great start and was able to capture the lead early and pull an 8-10 car-length lead until a caution came out for rain at lap 16-17.

Landon Huffman was able to take the lead over me when the race restarted and together we pulled away from the pack and battle for a while. Unfortunately, Huffman held off our assault for P1 and we took the checkered flag in the P2 position.

It felt amazing to be back out front again and it absolutely gave myself and the team the confidence boost that we are making progress in the right direction.

Thank you for supporting us here at Team 30 and thank you for supporting grassroots racing. We will see you next time at the track on June 3rd!
