Race Recap: 03/25 - Hickory Motor Speedway

Our mid-season work on the #30 machine is finally starting pay off and we are beginning to see some really big improvements in our setup. Going into the weekend we tested the car on Friday before the bad weather moved in and we could already tell the balance and consistency in the setup had improved over the weekend off from racing.

Luckily the rain cleared up quickly Saturday morning and the track dried out very nicely. We were fast in practice and the car still felt very good. We ended up P4 before making some small adjustments heading into practice two. During the second practice, the track timing system was down but on our stopwatch we picked up 0.2 seconds.

In qualifying I got through turns 1-2 great, got into 3 too hard and ended up sideways in the middle of the corner so I gassed it and saved it from spinning. We missed the Pole by .02, but I believe I left .1 in 3-4.

I started the race on the outside front row and when the green flag dropped the #47 car got a better start than I did, so I tucked in behind him and for about the first 15 laps I felt like I had something for him but after lap 15 I started to lose forward bite and it gradually got worse allowing the #9 car to catch and overtake us for 2nd with about 8 laps to go.

Fortunately I was able to hold onto to P3 for the rest of the race and we finished with our first podium of the season! The car is much, much better than it has been so far this year so I am really confident we are on the right path with it and our setup. Now we just need to keep that momentum going and chase down some trophies!

Thank you to everyone who supported us this past weekend and thank you for supporting grassroots racing! See you at the track!
